Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Electronic Cigarette?
An electronic cigarette is also known as an e-cigarette, e-cig, electric cigarette, personal vapouriser, mod or apv (advanced personal vaporizer). The electronic cigarette works by heating e-liquid to produce a flavoured vapour. This is why using an electronic cigarette is often referred to as “vaping”.
What is E-Liquid?
E-Liquid is the liquid used in all electronic cigarette devices that provides the taste and vapour. E-Liquid is made from a base mixture of Propylene Glycol and/or Vegetable Glycerin and flavours. E-juice is contained in the form of a bottle (10ml, 15ml, 30ml, 60ml) which is used for filling clearomizers, tanks, drippers, atomizers and cartomizers.
Does your E-Liquid contain Nicotine?
No. None of the e-liquid flavours that we stock contain nicotine. We do not sell any products that contain nicotine. Selling and supplying nicotine in Australia is against the law due to its listing as a Schedule 7 substance. We do NOT sell, recommend or promote the use of nicotine as it is an addictive substance. If you want a nicotine free throat hit, try our Throat Hit Enhancer with your e-juice.
How long does e-liquid last?
Generally speaking, a 10ml bottle of e-liquid can last anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks depending on how much you vape. People that smoke approximately a pack per day may use one 15ml-30ml bottle per week with regular atomizers. Some of clearomizers and other low resistance atomizing devices can burn a little more liquid, so they may go through more liquid in this case. Other factors are the type of electronic cigarette being used, whether you are a heavy vaper, and to a certain extent the way you operate the device. You will establish quite quickly how much e-liquid you are using, and this will guide you as to how much e-liquid you’ll need to buy in the future.
What is a Doubler/Double Strength E-Liquid?
A doubler is a double-strength concentrated e-liquid designed to be diluted with additional VG, PG and nicotine. All of our e-liquid flavours have been made with double strength flavour. Our double strength e-juices are ready to vape, and can be used exactly as they are, however they will have a strong flavour if not diluted. If diluted they can make up to double the quantity of juice. Check out our handy e-juice calculator if you need help mixing.
What is Throat Hit?
The term ‘throat hit’ is the sensation felt in the back of the throat when the vapour is inhaled using an electronic cigarette. Increased throat hit can make using e-liquid and an electronic cigarette feel more like a real cigarette. Not all e-liquids give you a throat hit, some are smooth and subtle, especially those that are made with MAX VG. High VG e-liquid tends to give a much smoother feeling on the throat, with a more substantial ‘thicker’ mouthfeel. If you want a nicotine free throat hit, try our Throat Hit Enhancer with your e-juice.
What is Vapour Production?
Vapour production is the amount of vapour that an e-liquid produces. This plays an important role in all e-liquid products. People generally prefer a lot of vapour when using an electronic cigarette as it gives them the feeling of smoking. There are a few factors that help with vapour production which include the PG/VG ratio, the voltage at which the e-cigarette is set and the type of e-cigarette that is being used. Generally VG based e-liquid produces thicker vapour.
Do any of your e-liquid flavours taste like a cigarette?
The tobacco cigarette taste will never be replicated with an e-liquid as it is not combusted smoke or burnt tobacco. We do have an amazing range of natural tobacco flavoured e-liquids that we believe come as close to the real thing as possible.
What is PG and VG?
E-Liquid is made from a base mixture of Propylene Glycol (PG) and/or Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and flavour. As the vapour is inhaled by the user they are able to taste the flavouring that is diluted in the E-liquid.
Both PG and VG are considered GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the FDA and EPA. They are common ingredients found in many of the foods we eat, cosmetics we use, medications we take, and common household items such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and soap. They are also used in the fog machines used in theaters and night clubs.
PG is a thin liquid that dilutes and carries flavours very well, making it the optimal base for mixing, but when thinned out even further by the addition of flavouring it may produce less vapour. Also, a very small percentage of the population experiences a sensitivity to PG that may present itself in a number of ways from throat irritation to skin irritation. However, most people with this sensitivity are still able to use e-liquids that contain a lower amount of PG without any negative effects.
VG is a slightly sweet and very thick liquid in its pure form, which results in much higher vapour production than PG. However, the downside to this thickness is that it may cause wicking, clogging, or burning issues in some devices if the VG concentration in the e-liquid is too high. Due to the inherent sweetness of VG it can alter or dull the flavour slightly and reduce the amount of throat hit experienced by the user.
Ultimately, the E-Liquid mixture percentages of each user are merely personal preference based on the tradeoff between flavour, throat hit, and vapour production.
How does PG and VG produce vapour?
PG and VG produce vapour when heated. PG gives you a slight “Throat Hit” whilst VG produces clouds of vapour. The combination gives a most pleasurable vaping experience. We recommend starting with a 50/50 PG to VG ratio, then try out various combinations and see which you prefer. Make sure your vaping set-up can deal with the different ratios.
How do I store e-liquid?
Store your e-liquid in a cool, dark place that is OUT OF REACH of children, and AWAY from pets!
Do not expose e-liquids to excessive heat or prolonged sunlight. E-Liquid can be stored in the refrigerator – in a place furthest from the freezer. Wine coolers are great for storing e-liquid. The colour of the e-liquid may darken with time; however this will not affect the taste.
What is the shelf life of e-liquid?
The shelf life of e-liquid is approximately 2 years if stored properly in a cool, dark, dry place and away from direct sunlight. Always keep e-juice in a safe place out of the reach of children and pets. The presence of air and light can start to oxidise the e-liquid and the colour can darken with exposure, however this does not affect the flavour, strength or safety of our e-liquid.
My E-liquid has changed in colour since I’ve ordered it. Is it still safe to use?
The discoloration is most likely due to storage and oxidisation of your e-liquid, this does not affect the flavour, strength or safety of the e-liquid. Be sure to store your e-liquid in the refrigerator or in a cool, dark and dry place.
Can your e-liquid be used in any e-cigarette?
Yes, All of our e-liquid flavours can be used with any electronic cigarette, mod or advanced personal vapouriser.
How long after you receive my order do you ship?
If you are located in Australia your e-liquid order should arrive within 24-72 hours, depending on where you live and if you are located within the Express Post network. International orders may vary from 5-14 business days depending on where you live.
Can the e-cigarette help me quit smoking?
It is not known whether e-cigarettes are a suitable aid in giving up smoking. There is a lack of clinical studies that would support this assumption. There is simply no information on whether or not tobacco-dependent smokers may actually benefit from e-cigarettes under certain circumstances. Electronic cigarettes are not listed as a smoking cessation device.
E-Liquid and E-juice is for use only by adults over the age of 18 years old, or above the legal smoking age in their specific country/region. All products and accessories sold by Artistry Extracts are only intended for committed smokers of legal smoking age (18+).
